How is GENDER being represented in the music video ‘Red
Lights’ by Tiesto.
Make specific reference to scenes to back up your answer.
The Women in the music video ‘Red
Lights’ are very sexualised using their items of clothing and themes throughout
the music video, for example there’s a car wash scene of them cleaning their
car in a dirty manner, drawing eye to the male gaze. The women are being objectified
throughout the video, however they are objectifying themselves, even the camera
angles present shots and positions that wouldn’t be in the music video if it wasn’t
trying to create some sort of sexual atmosphere. Each theme we move onto during
Red Lights seems to objectify the two main women, or attempt to “seduce” its
male audience. The video itself is quite unique, it seems to create some kind
of being free and independent meaning, however goes against this by subjectifying
their characters. They do this in many situations, another one being when they’re
getting changed, it didn’t need to be shown but showed it for its male audience
creating a wider audience.
